The Problem
In the Upper West Region of Ghana, the Kangba community faced immense challenges in accessing adequate healthcare.
Their Community Health and Planning Services (CHPS) compound, though vital, was plagued by severe shortcomings: no electricity, no maternity ward, and no refrigeration for storing vaccines. Pregnant women in labour had to endure dangerous motorbike rides on bumpy roads to reach distant hospitals—often leading to complications, and tragically, the loss of mothers or babies.
The facility, originally built 15 years ago as a storeroom for a Catholic Relief initiative, had fallen into disrepair, serving as a shelter for stray animals instead of the lifesaving hub it was meant to be.

How We Helped
- We rehabilitated the abandoned community centre into a functional maternity ward.
- We Installed solar panels, providing the facility with reliable electricity.
- We delivered beds, medical equipment, and a refrigerator for vaccine storage.
Today, the maternity ward is operational, offering a safe space for pregnant women
The solar-powered facility ensures that healthcare professionals can work without the hindrance of darkness, and vaccines are stored safely, ensuring the health of future generations.
